NO Shepard's Hook Required

I don't know about you but I have several potted plants that no matter how much you water them they can NOT take this heat! Here in KC the temps have been in the triple digits for over a month (probably a month and a half) with almost NO rain and the plants are struggling, especially the potted plants. So, after losing a couple I got creative and discovered a way to give them a little shade and help them rough out the high temps....here is my solution:

That's right....hang them from the tree!

The best thing about it is that it was a NO COST SOLUTION! I had already had the chain and "S" hook on hand and the plant has taken off and bloomed a lot more since I hung it from the tree. It still gets full sun but the tree shades it during the hottest part of the day when the sun would otherwise beat right down on it.

Since watching my basket of pink petunas take off I have done this with a couple other hanging baskets I had as well, and by hangin them from tree limbs it actually adds an unexpected touch to the landscaping AND helps prolong the life of your flowers...and I didn't even have to to buy another sheppard's hook!!! :)

So if you are lacking shady areas in your yard and your plants are suffering, think outside the box and try hanging them from under your deck or off tree limbs around your yard and continue enjoying their bueauty for a couple more months without spending any more $$$$.

  1. What a great idea!! You have such a beautiful yard! I have to admit I'm a little jealous of your picket fence! :)

  2. Thanks Kristen! I appreciate it. Even with a sprinkler system it is still very hard to keep the grass and landsaping looking nice in the heat, but we try. LOL :)

  3. Great idea! All my deck plants are dead from this awful heat and the all day sun! I will have to try the tree idea next year!
