Pinned it Done it-DIY Mason Jar Soap Pump

Yay! Now I can say Pinned that, done that!

I have wanted to make one of these mason jar soap dispensers for a VERY long time now and I finally decided I was going to do it. I even picked up some mason jars about 6 months ago or more and they sat out in the garage until the other day when I decided to make this.

I have been inspired by many of you out there who have already made some of these, but the latest piece of inspiration comes from Christina at The Frugal Homemaker. She tackled this project last Fall and gave some good advice about the process.

Firs off, before you get started I suggest that you do some planning. You need to know ahead of time the color you want the lid and pump to be, and make sure it coordinates with your soap color!

(I personally like the lid and pump to be the same color, but to each his own, right?)

I knew that this time I did not want to use oil rubbed bronze, gray, or any color like I normally would, but instead I wanted this to be a Spring color and have a whimsical look.

I also knew I would be using Pink soap, so I wanted to use this Yellow soap pump from
an empty bottle of face wash that I held on to for a while thinking it would be perfect for this project.

(I am not promoting this product, just showing you that you can use the pump from your existing home products that you already have around the house).

Once you have your pump you need to do the following:

1. Wash and dry your jar and lid

2.Take the flat inside piece of the lid and drill a hole in the middle large enough for your soap pump to slide down into.

If it is not snug and secure, glue the pump to the lid on the UNDER side of the lid. (I did not have to glue mine)

3.Prime and paint your two lid pieces. I used a spray primer since I knew this was going to be subject to lots of water and heavy use, AND I used Rustoleum paint to help protect the metal from all the water.

4.Once your lid has been painted and is dry just shove your pump thru the hole, cut the long pump stem if it is too long, then add soap, and screw on the lid.

 That's it! Easy peasy!

Now, you can stop here, but I wanted to embellish my jar with a little whimsy, so here is what I did to add a little flower to the front of the jar.

I used some pink vinyl and my Cricut and cut out a flower shape.

Peel off the negative part of the vinyl then off your transfer paper and stick it on to your vinyl image.

Next peel the image off and stick it on to the front of the jar, then add a little rhinestone for some bling using a dab of glue.
I used Locktite.

And that gave me a pretty Spring soap pump for my kitchen.

The colors are perfect for Spring and Easter too!

And here it is sitting next to my sink.

This was such a fun project that I am now itching to make several more of these for gifts and/or to sell in my upcoming booth.

Happy Spring Everyone!
