There has been a shift in decor recently that incorporates a lot of naturals in our spaces. From topiaries, to fresh flowers, to picture frames embellished with fabric rosettes, to everything mossy!
This also includes terrariums. But I will have you know terrariums are not a new concept to home decor.
No sir-ee. I can remember back in the late 70s or early 80s my Mom had a terrarium that looked something like this-

But its a NEW millennium, a NEW and modern generation who are very eco-friendly and who opt for terrariums more in line with these:
Under a large glass cloche...........

Or how about in an apothecary jar like this...........
Ah, and how about the new and improved terrarium in a cake dome? oh yeah! Very 2013!
Lots of color and texture with the flowers and moss.
....and in a glass Christmas ornament? How clever!
So as you can see, we've gone beyond the "space capsule extra terrestrial macrame style" terrariums to more sophisticated ones using repurposed glass jars, ornaments, and so forth.
Here is a set of terrariums I found on display today at Home Depot.
Aren't they gorgeous?!?
I found them to be very inspiring so I might just have to try making one of these!
But one thing is for sure....it will NOT, I repeat, will NOT include macrame!!!! :)

I'm also a huge plant freak and geek, so these terrariums really make me drool! I have an old glass mushroom, It's about a foot tall. The top of the mushroom is the lid which comes off. I have wanted to build a terrarium in it for-EVAH! Maybe this will get the brain juices going and give me some inspiration. Thanks for bringing them to our attention! P.S. Mom never had one. But I did make a jute macrame hanger in art class to go with my handmade clay pot!

Hahahaha! My mom had the big white based plastic one! I want to make one, but I'm too cheap to buy plants. I'll get "pinches" from friends.
