Pottery Barn Inspired Memo Board

 

Do you remember THIS piece I mentioned SEVERAL times and said I had big plans for it?

Well, it took me some time but I was waiting for the perfect space to put it.

When I found it at the thrift store it was in bad shape, as you can see. There were scrapes, scratches, and dust, but it was a quality piece from Bombay & Co, and I LOVED its shape, crown moulding ledge across the top, and the fact that all of the hooks were in tact, so it came home with me.

I had a vision and knew I wanted it to serve as a mail organizer/memo board, so the transformation began.

After cleaning it up

I unscrewed the backing and removed guts

Then I painted it Polar Bear White in Satin by Behr

(using SW paint)

Then remember this post when I found this Frenchy fabric?

I removed the tacks and cord so that the memo board part was smooth

then I covered it with the Frenchy fabric,

reattached the backing,

and completed the makeover;

transforming this piece that was once destined for the trash into a designer look alike.

Here are some Before & After comparisons-

I love the crown moulding ledge on top and the white paint lets the curves of the moulding show thru.  

And here it is hung on the wall in the mudroom.

(Which will get a big reveal some time soon).

And here is the Pottery Barn piece that inspired me. It retails for $259 and was on sale for $209.

My inspired piece, without the mirror (I opted for fabric instead), and in total I spent $15 bucks.

 I still need to scrape some paint off of the hooks where I had an oops, but I was so excited to show you how this turned out and I didn't want to wait any longer.

This piece had been sitting in the garage for a long time waiting for its big makeover and the day finally came. It is now proudly displayed in the mudroom and I love it!
