Incorporating Bittersweet Into Your Fall Decor

As Labor day approaches, I slowly begin letting go of Summer and all of the fun summer decor in our home and begin planning and my design for our fall decor. One of the things I look forward to seeing every fall and incorporating into my decor is fresh bittersweet. For those of you who do not know what it is, bittersweet is a woody vine that produces orange berries in late summer/fall.
Here is a pic of it growing on the vine:

Many people clip off pieces of the vine or make bunches of it to incorporate into their fall decor. Every year I buy a couple bunches at our town's annual fall festival where local farmers sell their goods, and each year I can't wait to get it home to use it.

Sometimes I wrap it around wreaths, or tuck pieces of it inside a garland on my mantel or entry table, but one thing is sure and that is you will ALWAYS see bittersweet in my home in the fall. I try to use it in a different way than I did the previous year, or maybe put it in a different room, but I am always pleased with how it looks, regardless of what I do with it. It is so pretty that I don't think you can do anything to make it look bad!!!
Here are some inspiration pictures I came across lately as I began planning my fall decorating:
This wreath is beautiful. Bittersweet and apples represent fall perfectly!

Beautiful bittersweet wreath from Martha Stewart with urns filled with gourds:

Gorgeous whell barrow with pumpkins and bittersweet. I love this look! Classic fall!

Bittersweet used in a candle arrangement:

Cute wreath adorned with bittersweet and gourds and hung on an old/distressed door:

Just a branch of bittersweet....which steals the show if placed on your mantel or running down the middle of your dining room table:

And one of my favorite pictures.....I {LOVE} white picket fences, and to have one draped with a wreath full of bittersweet just makes me smile! :)

Gorgeous fall arrangement with fruit, berries, and bittersweet:

Rustic looking bittersweet wreath hanging from a barn door:

This gorgeous basket is lined with bittersweet....so rustic and natural looking.

And lastly, after fall has come and gone you can keep your bunches of bittersweet and incorporate them into your winter decor and greenery. They keep their shape for a log time so don't throw them out! :)

Here is a pic of our front door. I plan on making a special fall arrangement (which will include bittersweet) to hang on the door.

If you have never used bittersweet in your fall decor, I encourage you to give it a try. I promise you, you can't go wrong!
Jennifer

  16. So when you buy the bittersweet every fall, its just the red berrys & the shell hasnt opened yet, is that what I saw in the 2nd photo? My husband always brings me some, but he doesnt do it until the leaves start to change color. I would love to sell some in my booth now, but Im not sure if it will change once its cut?
I love it as much as you!!
