Fall Mantel

SShhheeewww! I am finally happy settling with my fall mantel. Here is a picture of the left side. The leaf canvas is one of my favorite pieces that I got from AtHome America several years ago when I as a consultant. It sold in a set a three but I only have one displayed here.

The Fall nesting boxes came from one of my favorite places to find unique seasonal decor...Terry's Village. I believe they still have them, so if you like these you may want to check out their website.

Then of course the bittersweet plate that several of you have asked me about. This is a piece I ALWAYS display each Fall and it looks good with any Fall theme so it is a piece I hope to keep for a very long time. I only have one and I found it at an antique mall over 10 years ago when I first started getting familiarized with antiques and vintage home decor.

Here is the right side of the mantel. Just a simple thrifted vase displaying twigs and pussy willow next to a trio of black candle sticks. The little pot of greenery is from Nell Hills in Kansas City and I love it because it is such a perfect size to add a little "fluff" of greenery to my decor.

Then there is the focal point. A black mirror I got on clearance from Hobby Lobby back around 2003. The ornate frame and beveled glass caught my eye but I didn't care much for the muted gold/silver toned frame so I brought it home and painted it a satin black color and now it is perfect!

Next, lets talk about fireplace screens. It seems that people either love them or hate them. Me ...I {love} them!

When Mr. Chaos had the house built he chose oak trim and mouldings all throughout the house and he chose to have a hearth built with the fire place....which I absolutely LOVE! My house did not have a hearth....the fireplace was a ground level, and after having both types of fireplaces, the hearth wins hands down!!!  (however I miss my wood burning fireplace and white mouldings, but lets save all of that for another day!)  :)

So, back to fireplace screens. I found this one about a month or so ago at a local garage sale. I was immediately drawn to it because of the fact that it is only a two panel screen, (most of the time I find three panel screens) AND I love those iron feet!
...and lets also not forget the price was PERFECT at only $2 bucks! Yes, two dollars!

So I brought it home and cleaned it up and voila!

It instantly gave our flat front fireplace some dimension and depth.

...And last but not least, the basket of forsythia stems (yes I know forsythia is a Spring plant, but the yellow flowers resembled yellow leaves so I couldn't resist), and tall candlesticks.

My mom gave me the candle sticks as a gift back in the late 90s from the LTD catalog and I have had them ever since. They have moved several times and been used in my old apartment and my first home, and now with us in this house.

They are timeless and go with any decor! (Plus, they are extra special because they are gift from Mom) :)

So here is the final picture of everything pulled together. (less the pumpkins that I have not yet purchased) LOL

So how do you prefer your fireplace? With a screen or no screen (naked)?

  9. We had a fireplace, hearth, and mantel in our old house and I miss it a lot! You did a wonderful mantel display! I love wrought iron decor, so even though it isn't used to keep the fire sparks from flying, I love the aesthetic effect! Thanks for sharing!
